Thanks to all of our loyal customers, donors, and volunteers, 2023 was a great year for the Frostburg Palace Theatre! The Palace’s Board is particularly thankful for the outpouring of support for last year’s Raise the Roof campaign and want to give you an update on replacing the auditorium roof.
An engineer’s report prepared by Bennett, Brewer & Associates estimates the cost to complete the roof repair project at $125,000. The scope of the repair includes installing a high-quality EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) rubber membrane, and new soffit, gutters, and down spouting.
Last year we asked the community for your help raising this money to ensure the Palace remains a vibrant part of downtown Frostburg for generations to come. And boy did you respond!! Between your donations, fundraising competitions, and institutional support we raised $62,500. That’s a lot of money!! Creatively, kindly, convincingly, the community stepped up to show support.

To get us the rest of the way to $125,000, we have applied for a matching grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). Our hope is that we will be able to combine the $62,500 raised locally with the ARC matching grant to reach the total project cost. The Palace roof project sits squarely in the ARC’s mandate and we think the value of investing in the crown jewel of Frostburg’s arts district is obvious. We should know more about status of the grant request in April. With support from the federal grant the roof repair can be completed this summer; we will keep you up to date as more information becomes available.
While we wait, the Palace is happy to announce its 2024 Film Series. As with last season we have chosen a selection of classic American cinema. We put together a wide selection of films with a little something for everyone to demonstrate the range of films our community has enjoyed at the Palace during its many years of operation. So come on out to the Palace and spend a Thursday evening in Frostburg having dinner, shopping, and taking in a classic American movie!
